MT meeting. Date: 19 Febuary 2009 (13:00-13:40) Attendees: Dr Mark Wright, Henrik Ekeus, Pablo, Mei

During Thursday's meeting we discussed the possibility of using an API to garner either twitter lines or Flickr photos, or a mash-up between both, containing the words 'remember' and 'forget' in their different cases & number *and maybe also memory/memories. The idea comprises building an interface that could display the harvesting of such data (maybe in real time?). Hence, what's left to do is imagine those visualisations that could work for the project so that the message is transmitted effectively.

But, what message?

Mei's first thoughts versed on depicting the most popular words matching forget and remember on a grid of 'linguistic mnemonics'. Suggestions were made to think of how to concile or juxtapose different sources of data, as text and images, into a multiformat grid. To achieve such task, we must develop manual visualisations of possible interfaces which could function as blueprints for the actual project. This visualisations must highlight which are the objectives behind the project, so by Thursday we can have a clearer notion of what do we want to achieve with this exercise.

During the meeting we mentioned Digg Labs as an example of a portal that explores diverse ways of visualising data.

Discussion storytelling idea on 10 Febuary

• Mei may look up some tools for the character to communicate to each other.

Meeting 5.Feb.09

During today's meeting we discussed the possibility of using an sms system as a technical starting point. We proposed to start imagining interfaces displaying a silhouetted landscape of Edinburgh that will be informed and "coloured" with sms messages sent by pedestrians. The idea is to adhere stickers around the sites of interest inviting the walker to send a text with their impressions or thoughts on the building or monument in question, and then we will call those messages and display them creating a dynamic textual facade for the different locations. Garnering quotes describing Edinburgh from literary sources might as well complement the project and enrich its content. Here is a dowdy sketch drawn during today's session.

Maybe it would be a good idea to think of ways of taking the project to the street, following a similar logic to "Re:positioning Fear",  project of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer shared by Martin in class. We could cast the sms chunks on the facade of one of the buildings (or even organise our project around one single building and cover interior and exterior, or .... might imply unattainable $$$). Anyways, here's a small clip from the mexican.

a talk for Edinburgh and Environs tour idea

• Searching for the possible geographical mapping tools, supporting the function of integrating the images, texts, or vedio/audio elements.
  
• In order to test the tools, the pre-project work might be in a theme of 'Burns Night Supper' to try out the flexibility of the web applications.

A short talk for the project preparation

Both members of the project agreed on the following:

• Doing some research on the relevant projects and discuss on the 29th of January 2009
  
• Looking for the possible technology or web-based applications which are available to use in the future project.
• Keeping the log updated as soon as the new progress made or ideas generated by using the blogger.
• The project blogger will be coedited by all members of this projects and the permanent blogger tool is unsure. However, the blogger tool is not central issue for now, so we are likely to choice any place which is more support the future work.
  

Ideals so far:

• Followed by the idea of a mind map, making a map of the city of Edinburgh shows the multimedia elements to tag/link people's memory onto the map.
• Conceiving of a story makes it narratively documented in a metaphor of the map.
